Christopher Mitchell has always been drawn to the little details in everyday life, which is the essence of most of his still life work. Through his relationship with the objects he chooses to photograph, he hopes to evoke a light-hearted yet complex sense of playfulness. Making the most basic, ordinary objects become the centre of the viewer’s curiosity. Through the help of colour and texture, he hopes the viewer will begin to see objects from a more stimulating perspective. He truly believes that images are to be visually enjoyed for their own sake and don’t always need a deep meaning. They can be appreciated for their emotional impact, as well as the time and practical skill that has been put into them, whether that is in the studio or in post-production work. He enjoys working instinctively and letting himself experiment without worrying if it will fit within a certain body of images.
