Lucy Shortman is a photographic artist based between Birmingham and London, working predominantly in a fine art context with photography and text. As a photographer, she looks at the progression of creating an image and the performative nature between the artist, camera and figure. The process engages the action and thought of both the photographer and the subject. Through not just the natural, experiential interaction but also considering the staged aesthetic and physical posing that are being performed. She is interested in how visual language can be communicated through surface, colour and texture within and of the photograph, while the inclusion of the body explores theatricality and personal privacy. Her approach is to lead the viewer into an unreal, immersive experience.
